July 2025: Searing Summer

Text reading the following: 'July 2025: Searing Summer - I wish I'd used my air-con more, though'
So, what a summer it's been, huh? …what do you mean, it ISN'T OVER YET?!
Oh no.

Well, our month begins with a "nice", ridiculously-hot heatwave. Seriously, though - what kind of July BEGINS with that kind of weather?! That's usually either mid-July or August weather. Ugh.
Anyway, the next day, I was going into town (for volunteering) anyway, so I thought I'd give this new milkshake place that had recently opened a try - and you know what? It wasn't to DIE for, but it wasn't bad either.
I'd put up a photo of it, but you can't actually SEE the milkshake, so never mind. It was just vanilla ice cream anyway, so I'm sure you can imagine what it looked like.

On Friday the 4th, Mum and Maia went to London Zoo at night, so there wouldn't be any children running around. They enjoyed it - and I got a mushroom battle or two on Pikmin Bloom from London out of it as well… and a snowglobe, because why not?
And then, on Sunday the 6th, I decided, on a whim, to hack (that is, install custom firmware to) my 3DS. After all, they stopped all official online services over a year ago, so what exactly would they ban me FROM?
I've moved everything over from my hacked DSi, so I think I ought to UN-hack that (because, yes - that's a Thing You Can Do™.)

On Tuesday the 8th, I downloaded "CTGP-7", a mod for the game Mario Kart 7 that adds 88 new racetracks to the game, and I also started a Nuzlocke run (remember that?) in Pokémon Platinum, but I wound up eventually deciding I wasn't doing as well as I ought to, so I've since quit it and I plan to re-start it soon.
I got my hair cut on Wednesday the 9th… and then the very next day my computer refused to turn on! Or so it seemed, because once I left it for about fifteen minutes, it was back to normal and didn't mess up again. I still want to figure out why that happened, though - my best lead is a bad CMOS battery, but to be perfectly honest I'm sceptical that that's the cause.
And then the next day, Google Chrome decided to kill off ad blockers, so I immediately switched over to Mozilla Firefox. I refuse to trudge through a million ads every time I load a web page.

Monday the 14th saw me accidentally leave my water bottle at home, so when I made it to volunteering, I bought a bottle of water from the shop across the street. Hey, if it works, right?
Meanwhile, close to home, water wouldn't flow into a drain on the road, leading to the growth of algal mats. We've just had cloudbursts today - so I wonder if that's washed it all away?
And then Tuesday the 22nd had me come across the funniest screen in all of Deltarune:
A screenshot of the video game Deltarune. A plush of the character Ralsei is shown lying face-down, with text below reading 'WHY DIDN'T YOU PUSH HIM?'
It makes sense in context, I swear.
Kind of. Not really.

I then chose the first day of the summer holidays - Thursday the 24th - to have lunch out!
That was what we in the industry like to call "a mistake".
There were so many screaming children. It was so loud.

And as for THIS week, I got accepted into Nintendo's "Playtest Program", so I've been playing that during the last couple of days!
It's… well, it's MUCH more feature-packed than I would expect a playtest to be. I expect they're planning on releasing it as a fully-fledged game, and that this is just a very big beta test for it.

Anyway, that's all from me for this month - can you BELIEVE that I wrote most of this in the space of fourteen hours?! I sure can, because I keep procrastinating things like this for some reason.
Well, I still got this out on time, and I'm still going to be back in a month… for this blog's tenth anniversary!
See you then!
Why have I kept this blog going for so long
