August 2025: The Real Blog was the Friends We Made Along the Way

Text reading the following: 'August 2025: The Real Blog was the Friends We Made Along the Way - Oh wait, I don't HAVE any friends.'
How have I been doing this for ten years.
Anyway, it's funny how I think of the current system of "post at the end of the month" as a "new" thing, because it's been that way for nearly ¾ of this blog's ENTIRE EXISTENCE.
So no, it does not count as a "new thing".
There's something I wanted to put here, but I don't have the faintest clue any more what it was.

We begin with Thursday the 7th, where Mum and Dad flew off to spend a long weekend in Germany because it was somewhere we haven't been (well, not ME, anyway) for twenty-two years.
Hell, it's been so long (and I was so young when we left) that I don't actually remember anything about that place.
Some might say it's bad practice to give out the place where I first lived.
But I'm not saying WHERE in Germany it was, so that should be fine… right?

Meanwhile, the rest of this month has been INCREDIBLY mundane, to the point that the only thing I can think of reporting on is that I (thankfully incorrectly) thought I bricked my computer when I gave in and decided to update it.

At least the last week has been more interesting.
I volunteered on Bank Holiday Monday because… well, frankly, I don't know why. I did want to stay home, but I've never been one to assert myself much outside of the home, so I got roped into doing that after all.
And then, on Tuesday the 26th, I had my glasses re-lensed -- my new lenses now match the prescription properly, because there was enough of a change last time that the optician didn't want to increase all the way up to it at once.
I guess my next eye test is in two years, then.

Of course, Thursday the 28th was the release date of Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World (if I had to type out that name any more than once, I think I'd get an RSI.)
I enjoyed it, although I was actually expecting it to be about twice as long as it actually turned out to be - still, not bad for £17!

A screenshot of Star-Crossed World's third stage, showing an ocean whose water has been pushed away by crystal walls.
It's full of scenic vistas, though I'm sure it'd look better on a 4K television than it did on my 1080p screen.

That is definitely one of the names of all time.

And that attack is the most unique of its type (there are recurring attacks used by Kirby games' toughest bosses, and this is one of them, called "Deadly Sun" by the fan wiki) - it's something I picked up on during the battle, and something I was VERY impressed with.
As is typical for every game since Kirby's Adventure Wii, there is a patently absurd amount of lore (sense 2 on the linked article) and it's all in the background.
In particular, I was struck by the story of NEICHEL, a singer who gave hope to her people as they left their world behind - she chose to stay, and later wrote a song expressing her lament at the fate of her planet.
Some people in the fandom think her mind became the AI of the spaceship, the Lor Starcutter, from Kirby's Adventure Wii - which would thus fulfil her wish of travelling through space like most of the rest of her people.
Plus, a song she wrote was being played on the ships as they left - which, due to their teleportation, propagated backwards through time and space. How do they come up with this???

I finished 100% of the game's content the other night, so it's back to other stuff for me!

There's also the matter of this blog's tenth anniversary - well, let's just say that I almost certainly wouldn't have expected it to last so long when I first started!
To be perfectly honest, I've had much less of a need for it ever since I started writing a daily diary nearly three years ago, and I do plan to end it relatively soon as a result. But it isn't ending yet, and I WILL give at least a month's notice (and put up at least one more post AFTER the announcement!) before ending this blog.
To everybody who's followed this blog… thank you!

I've a short trip to Dublin (the first time I'll have ever gone somewhere without "adult supervision", which really tells you how often I travel) to look forward to in the next week - so get ready for plenty of pictures in next month's post!
Until then - see you later!
