April 2025: Switch, Two

It's been a month that started well, and ended… let's say NOT well. Heatwaves are such a pain, I swear.

Well, Tuesday the 1st was quite obviously April Fools' Day. I had a particular joke ready for Maia, but I'm not sharing it here because it's more of a personal thing between the two of us.

But Wednesday the 2nd was the big day of the Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2!
Various details about the hardware were revealed, like the 4K support (well, kind of; it actually upscales from its native 1440p) and the mouse functionality of the Joy-Cons 2 - and the Mario Kart game shown back in January was revealed to be called Mario Kart World!
It's a Mario Kart game set in an open world, where the Grands Prix have you drive from course to course as well as around each course - plus, there's the modes of Knockout Tour, where you drive in a single continuous race with six checkpoints, and Free Roam, where you can drive around freely and play missions (like "drive along these rails to collect coins" or "get to the gate before time runs out" to get unlockable stickers.
Plus, unlike in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (the Switch version specifically, since the original Wii U version still requires you to unlock the cups in the same way done since Mario Kart DS) and most like in the SNES original Super Mario Kart, the final cup - the Special Cup - requires you to get a trophy in each of the seven others before it's unlocked, and Rainbow Road seems to be completely inaccessible until that happens as well. So that's quite interesting!
Plus, several games will be getting upgraded versions for the Switch 2 as well - some of them, like those for Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, will be free with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscription… good thing too, because I wouldn't have bothered with them otherwise. Kirby and the Forgotten Land will also get a Switch 2 Edition containing a new set of levels based off of the pre-existing levels, called Star-Crossed World, so that's something else for me to look forward to!
The Switch 2 itself will release on the 5th of June.

Later that week, I started playing Minecraft again, because even though I've been playing it for NINE YEARS at this point, I've never actually beaten the game. Things got off to a somewhat-rough start, like the time I tried to tame a cat to be my pet and it killed itself instead, but at this point I'm now closer than I've ever been before to fighting the boss (both first AND final, because vanilla Minecraft doesn't really DO boss battles) and I hope to have the game beaten within the next couple of weeks!

The Pikmin Bloom Community Day was on the weekend of the 12th and 13th, and so I went into town with Mum and Maia, and we had lunch out and all that. Also, there was a bird that sounded a bit like a Mario Boo (the ghost enemy.)
Then, the 18th was Good Friday, so we had fish and chips for dinner because that's just What You Do™.
That Sunday was, of course, Easter! There was so much chocolate. I've actually asked for less next year.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday the 22nd, my computer chair broke… not that that's stopped me from still using it.

Mum's birthday was just a week ago now, on Wednesday the 23rd, and it seems she really liked the gifts I got her, so hurray for that!
Meanwhile, the fifteenth series of Doctor Who started on the 12th, and I've enjoyed it so far!

Doctor Who series 15 minor spoilersMrs Flood is VERY suspicious with her appearances in every episode, and I wasn't expecting a sequel to S4E10 Midnight, but (in spite of the fact I do NOT have the mettle for horror) I enjoyed it… up until the ending, which is just depressing.

Last, but not least, I went to Reading with Maia yesterday, and so we had lunch out at IKEA - but they didn't have any ice cream, so we got ice cream from Creams instead.

And that's all from me for this month!
Tune back in next month, when… er… I don't know.
Nothing normally happens in my life in May.
I'll still have a story, though. Who knows? Maybe I'll have a job by then!
And maybe pigs will fly while hell freezes over and the stars themselves fall.
Seriously, though, I swear I'll NEVER get a job at this rate.
