December 2019: See you next decade

Hello, everybody!
Today, I'm doing something a little different -- I'm looking at what's happened to me across the whole decade.
So let's begin!

23/07/2010 - Nan died
I know, I know. What a cheery topic to start my overview of the decade with. But I can't think of anything else particularly important that happened in the first half of 2010, so this'll have to do.

When Nan died, it was the first time I ever experienced a death. Considering I was only eight, it was really difficult. I'm told that I cried for about half an hour continuously when I was first told the next morning, and I would remember and cry from time to time for the rest of the day.

So, then... cheery. But there's still better things to come!

10/09/2011 - We moved to our current house
We tried moving ourselves - as in, without a moving company.
We all agreed to never attempt that again.
Ever.

21/12/2012 - The world did not end
I knew it wouldn't end since I was eight. The idea always seemed so ridiculous... yet people made so much of it that it spawned several films.
No, the Maya were not prescient. Funnily enough, it would seem that an ancient civilisation did not have accurate information on the way the world works.

11?/03/2013 - Trip away from home
I went away from home on a school trip to PGL Windmill Hill for a week.
The first words out of my mouth after we arrived were "I want to go home".
I had no phone - and thus no contact with my family - and didn't even like the majority of the activities they did.
All in all, I think it was not worth it, and especially not worth the hundreds of pounds that Mum & Dad had to pay for it.

09/09/2013 - I started secondary school
It was actually difficult getting used to doing actual work again, because I had spent the last few weeks of primary school not doing any work at all (I accidentally broke the laptop I was using for work.)
But in the end, I got used to working again, and got on with it.

12/10/2013 - Pokémon generation 6 began
Mega Evolutions are one of my favourite things to come from Pokémon.

26/08/2015 - I started this blog
I was still 13 when I started this blog, but I've kept up with it (apart from early 2018) for the last four years. I'm not quite sure when I'll stop, but it's not just yet!

11/10/2015 - Luna died
Our younger cat, Luna, was run over while me, Mum & Dad were on our way to an apple festival. Honestly, I don't think I'll ever forget the incredulous way Mum said "Luna is dead?" when Maia was calling her to explain.

23/06/2016 - ugh
I don't even need to explain other than 'I hate it'. And I won't.

13/09/2016 - I got a huge gash in my leg and foot
I was swimming for my 15th birthday and went to get out of the pool at the deep end... and the step snapped, cutting a huge gash in my leg (and a smaller one in my foot) that I only noticed when Marta pointed out the massive amount of blood coming from it ('twas probably the adrenaline.)

21/11/2016 - Pokémon generation 7 began
Though everywhere EXCEPT the EU got Sun & Moon on Friday the 18th.
Why the hell did we - and ONLY we - have to wait?

03/03/2017 - The Switch & Zelda: Breath of the Wild were released
It took me two weeks to beat that game - and I didn't even realise Korok Seeds existed until AFTER I beat it because of the ridiculous path I took to get to Kakariko Village (over the mountains, not on the path.)

03/11/2017 - My type 1 diabetes diagnosis
So... that was the time I was dying. Me & Dad were adamant none of the symptoms I'd had for a few months beforehand were diabetes, because we only thought of type 2.
When my condition started to worsen, Mum actually booked a fasting bloods test with our GP, but that never came to pass because on the Friday before it was due, another doctor we were seeing did a regular finger-prick test.
My blood sugars came back at 25 mmol/l, when the normal range is 4-7.
I was whisked away to Frimley Park Hospital in an ambulance, where I stayed until the following Tuesday while my blood sugars and ketones returned to normal from the episode of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).
It took a long tome to get used to it - and I'll admit it did actually make me feel suicidal at a couple of points - but I eventually got used to it, and learned to live with it.
After all, if I didn't, I'd die, and I don't think I ever really wanted that... not really.

10/09/2018 - I started college
College made me grow a lot as a person, very quickly. It's helped me become more independent, better at meeting new people, probably a better worker too and likely more I don't yet realise.
I'm still not confident enough to (effectively) ask someone "are you an immigrant?" or other ridiculously personal questions like that (the Geography GCSE was awful), but I've definitely grown as a person.

13/09/2019 - I reached the age of majority
I'm 18 years old now, so I have more freedoms (but more responsibilities) and am technically an adult, though only a young adult -- my brain hasn't even finished developing yet! (I still wouldn't be able to drink in America, though.)

15/11/2019 - Pokémon generation 8 began

31/12/2019 - Now
I could talk about how I have a positive outlook on the future and all, but that'd be a lie.
I am in fact a relatively pessimistic person at heart. After all, the universe has already tried to kill me, so there's no telling when it'll strike again.
(Though whenever it does, 31 Jan 2020 will play an important role.)

Even through my pessimism, however, there's something coming up I want to share:

20/03/2020 - Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be released
I'm really looking forward to playing Animal Crossing on the Switch and seeing how much they've changed the formula - after all, you start on a deserted island and build the town up yourself!

And with that, I shall cap off this decade. I'd say to make 2020 an amazing year, but the last tome I said that was for 2017, and we all know how that ended.

So... let's make 2020 the best we can! See you next decade, everybody!
