[13/01/17] Upcoming Games News: Nintendo Switch Presentation & Games!

Hello, everybody! Today (at 4am, no less!) the long-anticipated Nintendo Switch presentation was held. So let's take a look through it!
So, first, the Switch itself. The console will release on Friday, 3 March. A lot of people projected its release somewhere around St. Patrick's Day (17 March). But it was a pleasant surprise to learn it'd be available two weeks earlier!

The Switch itself comes in two colours - well not the console, but the Joy-Con controllers do! You can either get the standard model, with two grey controllers, or you can get a newly-revealed model with the left Joy-Con being coloured neon blue and the right Joy-Con being coloured neon red.

The standard features were looked over again - the dock providing HDMI output and the Joy-Cons being detachable and having a special grip that allows them to be used like a traditional controller - but there were new features revealed as well. The HD rumble feature provides more realistic, subtle rumbling features so 'a player could, for example, feel the vibration of individual ice cubes when shaking a Joy-Con.' (Just to clarify, that statement was quoted from www.nintendo.co.uk.)

The right Joy-Con possesses an NFC touchpoint (for amiibo compatability) and also an infared motion camera to detect the distance, shape and motion of objects. 'For example, it can tell how far away a player’s hand is, and even if the hand is forming a rock, paper or scissors shape.' (Again, that was a quote.) It also has the HOME button.

The left Joy-Con has a square Capture button that allows the capture of screenshots so they may be shared on social media. (I wonder if that includes Miiverse?) Both Joy-Cons also have an accelerometer and a gyroscope to allow for motion-based gaming.

And, of course, there are the games for the Nintendo Switch. Here are my three favourite first-party games coming to the Switch:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

We've known for a long time that this gigantic, open-ended 19th entry to the Legend of Zelda series would be a launch title of the Nintendo Switch. But it still amazes me just how large its world is! It's launching on 3 March.

Mario Kart 8
Wait… no, no. Sorry. Mario Kart 8 was released on the Wii U three years ago. What I meant to write was…

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (yes, I pulled the same trick I did with Super Mario Maker 3DS.)

Mario Kart 8 is back for the Nintendo Switch - now it's portable! Battle Mode has been revamped to act like the old games' Battle Modes again - and there's also three returning characters, too - King Boo, Dry Bones and Bowser Jr.! Also, say hello again to two items - one hasn't made an appearance in 24 years! The Cape Feather, last seen in the original, and the Boo, last seen in Mario Kart DS, are both making a comeback too! (It includes both DLC packs from the Wii U version.) It's launching on 28 April.

Super Mario Odyssey
Remember the Mario game from the video released back in October? This is it! It's the first 'sandbox' Mario game since Sunshine in 2002 - allowing Mario to truly explore the world again… also, he has an airship-house hybrid that takes him between worlds. Also, his cap inexplicably has EYES. And finally, it seems Bowser is trying to marry Peach. Even though last time that was tried, all worlds nearly ended. It's scheduled to launch in the 'holiday season' this year.

So… yep! That's what was in the Nintendo Switch presentation! You can watch it below:

Well then, I'll be off now until Sunday, so take care until then! Bye for now!
