July 2018: It's like the weather I enjoy, but anti!

Good afternoon, everybody! Today is the last day of July (how did I survive the weather?!) so it's time for me to regale my life story!

…again.

You thought I'd start in July?
(…welcome to the blog's new running gag!)
The last day of June - just after everything with the adware, Chromium and Opera, etc. I was still on the hunt for a job - 'cause that's what you do when you don't have one (thanks, Tesco) and I remembered one I'd looked at the previous day - a part-time opening in Clintons (the card shop.) So I applied for it!

Now we're in July! I got a call back the very next day and set up an interview on the Tuesday (the 3rd.) Though on Monday, it turned out the man who was to interview me was called to London for a couple of days, so the interview'd have to wait until he was back.

Not a problem, though! It gave me time to investigate the exact meaning of 'smart casual' clothes. (Don't ever ask Maia for help on that - she suggested a suit and flip-flops!)

Maia came home on Thursday the 5th! She had quite a few problems with the trains but still managed to get to us for about 6pm.

I didn't hear anything from Clintons for the rest of the week, so there was a plan B to fall back on; on Saturday at 11am, I called them and had an interview set up - over the phone - for about an hour's time.

After about three and a half hours, I called back; it turns out they'd apparently tried to get hold of me, but there must have been something wrong with the phone lines, as the call didn't even come through to my phone. Mind you, I only have word of mouth to go on here, so I can't entirely be sure…

Either way, I then had an interview set up for Monday (the 9th), so I was waiting by the phone then, when - surprise, surprise! - they, once again, didn't call. By this point, I was starting to get pretty irritated, considering it was now an entire week since I was supposed to come in for an interview. But me and Maia had passport photos to take in town on Tuesday, anyway, so we decided to go in person and see if I could get any news.

And the mood of Tuesday was…
(…Didn't give you any time to recover from the previous one, did I?)
APPARENTLY, they filled the role I had applied for on MONDAY without telling me. Would it have been so difficult when I called - which was two separate times - that the role had been filled?! No, because the correct reaction as an adult is to hang the phone up! BOTH times I called.

(And just to be clear, between those two calls was another call with a lady (who I think is the same lady I mention below) that went completely fine - so the disconnection from the other two calls was most likely hanging up on the other end.)

In fairness, the lady at the counter - who wasn't in on Monday so didn't know the job was filled - was exceptionally kind when it came to telling me, so her I certainly thank.

Anyway, if Tuesday wasn'tenough, then lunch happened. Oh my God, lunch happened.

I - as you likely well know - am type 1 diabetic. Thus, I need insulin - and the amount of insulin I need for a meal depends on the amount of carbohydrate present in said meal. This means that when I leave the house, I need to make sure I have enough insulin to cover whatever I'll be eating.
We went to Wetherspoons for lunch - this is what I had.
Altogether, my meal required me to inject myself with 44 units of insulin.

The pen I brought had twenty.

...oh dear.

It ended in Maia having to rush home to get my insulin, whilst I panicked and started jogging my legs up and down repeatedly in an effort to lower my blood sugars (after exercising, of course. 😉) We also took part in a panic-and-worry-filled text conversation, which ended up turning into a phone call.

But everything ended up fine in the end!

THAT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE MENTIONED
...maybe I exercised too much?
...anyway, I ended up applying for another job on Thursday (the  - this one was at a Nisa, in a garage. It would have only been about five minutes' walk from home to work, so I would be able to stay later (and get more money!)

Would have been.

I didn't hear anything back from them. Ever. They didn't even read my application.
I suppose the job must have been taken down, but... why not take the listing down then?!

Ugh... people. What's with people?

Either way, on Friday, I went for an appointment with the doctor, which was fun because nobody knew why I was having an appointment! (Always the best kinds of appointments, those. 😉)

Nothing much happened over the next week. I did go out for lunch with Maia on Saturday (the 21st), but apart from that, the week was relatively uneventful.

The next week had next-to-nothing happen as well, though I did start making a small Pokémon game of my own, thanks to a 'starter kit' found on the internet!

Also...
Do I have a new URL?

Because two weeks in a row were uneventful, I decided to ask Maia to write how her July's been, so here it is!

"Lucas has asked me if I wanted to write a little bit about how July has been for me, and it sure has been eventful! I've spent most of the month revising for my anatomy and physiology exam which was on July 27th, which I hope I did well on. Lucas, as always, has been a great source of support when I'm at home, from giving me time to crack on with revision to helping me destress (and him destress too, thinking about what a busy month this has been!) through watching silly videos and catching up on Doctor Who!

I've been home for most of the month, only going back up to uni for a lecture on complementary therapies - it was really interesting! When going up to uni on the train, as I decided to wander around London for the day. I went to the National Gallery, V&A Museum, Science Museum and Natural History Museum before jumping on my train at St. Pancras Station. My only wish was that I wasn't breaking in new shoes, ouch! (I switched to comfy trainers on the way home instead, phew.)

I have my last lecture for the year today (31st) and then everyone is coming up tomorrow to help me move back home for the summer. I can't wait!"

Thank you for writing that, Maia!

...and with that, I think it's about time I end this post. I have more things coming up soon - like a trip to Ireland! So I shall see everyone on Friday, the 31st of August! Bye for now!
