Earth Day!

I was only just notified, but today is Earth Day! So I thought, why not do a blog post about it?

History of the Earth

The Earth was formed four and a half billion years ago from a nebula - a giant cloud of hydrogen, helium and small amounts of other elements where stars are born. These other elements clumped together and formed the four terrestrial planets - Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. But let's focus on the third of them. I suggest we skip four billion years (to 500 million years ago) - that's when the interesting stuff starts to happen.

542,000,000 years ago... the Cambrian explosion. This was a period of time wherein the diversity of life seemed to 'explode', hence the name. This is also when most life started to appear.

252,170,000 years ago... the most massive extinction event in Earth's history. But don't worry - over this Triassic period, the dinosaurs appeared and conquered many niches left by the extinct animals.

66,000,000 years ago... the dinosaurs are wiped out by a massive asteroid, 10 kilometres in diameter, striking the Earth in what would later become the Yucatan Peninsula and ending the Cretaceous period. This then opened the way for mammals to come out of hiding and evolve!

11,716 years ago... the Holocene period started. Over the next 11,700 years, humans would diversify, war, diversify some more, war some more, cover the Earth and start to exploit it...

Today... we need to understand that the Earth, our home planet, is in danger because of us. We need to help it! I know this has been said many times, but it's true. There are many things we can do to help Earth, like keeping nature around, recycling or growing our own food. Together, we can save Earth!

Also, today marks two years since we got our second cat, Luna, who unfortunately passed away last year on the 11th of October. This passage...
"Welcome to this week's Random Content! I hope everybody has had a good weekend. I haven't, but it's not something I want to talk about on the blog. If you would like to know, ask me in person."
I've recovered now, and as you may guess, what upset me was Luna's death. Here I have a picture of her, so she will always be remembered:
We will always love and miss our Luna.

But on a happier note, it is still Mum's birthday tomorrow, so I'll see you then! Bye for real now! ;)
