Random Content - 22 November 2015

35 days until Christmas!
So... I said there'd be a nice surprise today. Maybe there is one! But you'll have to read on to find out... Will you? Regardless, let's begin this week's Random Content!

Rocks
Ah yes, rocks. Those which make up our dear planet (which we're destroying, but that's another subject.) On Earth, there are three types of rocks and I am here to explain them to you!

Igneous rocks
Igneous rocks are formed by the cooling of magma/lava. (Which, I might add, are two names for the exact same thing - molten rocks.) When they cool, crystals form. The quicker the cooling, the smaller the crystals. Fossils are unlikely to be found in these rocks because of their time as magma underneath the surface. An example of an igneous rock is granite.

Sedimentary rocks
Eventually these igneous rocks break down and are picked up by rivers. The rocks keep breaking apart until they quite literally form sand grains. These sediments, as they are called, are deposited at the bottom of the river. More and more are deposited and the weight of the upper layers squashes the lower layers into rocks once again. An example of a sedimentary rock is sandstone.

Metamorphic rocks
So the sedimentary rocks eventually are exposed by the river for whatever reason. They end up at the coast and are eroded into the oceans. Here, they won't be exposed again like this. They begin to form sedimentary rocks again, but the weight of the upper layers keeps increasing, pushing our rocks deeper and deeper, into the Earth where they heat up - the heat transforms them into metamorphic rocks. though they don't stay that way for long. The heat keeps increasing and they are eventually melted into magma again, with the rocks we've been following ready to solidify into igneous rocks and any fossils still inside likely being melted as well. The end.

New schedule
There is a new schedule that may be applied concerning the content on Sundays, fitting in Current Issues.
Running on a three-week cycle, it shall be:
Random Content -> Random Content -> Current Issues
In addition, next Sunday's post will be Current Issues (the schedule will start from there.)
You can vote on whether or not you support this change for one week only! Vote here.

LIFE OF LUCAS QUIZ!!!
Okay then - after that, why not try my little surprise - the first Life of Lucas Quiz! This quiz is all about general knowledge (though it does veer towards science more than other stuff.) Try it out and see how many questions you get right!

So then! The message from my mind is this:
"Intelligence can come in so many different forms. Just because you aren't good at one thing doesn't mean you're bad at another."
Well then, I will see you on Friday! Bye for the week - and have a good week as well!
